Guitarist and drummer Paul Beltman (ex-Sinister, ex-Judgement Day) started to write the first outlines of songs around 2012 and was soon looking for reinforcements to complete this work. Benjamin Hoogers (bass), Ingmar Otter (guitar, Codex) and Bart de Greef (vocals, ex-World Funeral) joined him and in 2014 River of Souls was formed. Drummer Mike Klaassen joined in 2017. The debut album, titled “The Well of Urd”, has been unleashed upon the world in 2017. This concept album consists of 6 songs revolving around lyrical themes like our everlasting fate, the binding forces of order and chaos, the inevitable journey through the Unlight and rebirth through death. The words are kept company by a diverse musical palette. By alternating brooding doomy passages with bursts of heavy riffing, a gateway is created to the world that lies beneath the Well. After receiving many very positive reviews on “The Well Of Urd”, a 3-track EP titled ‘The Nihilist’ is released on January 24th 2018. It’s the first recording with drummer Mike Klaassen. Furthermore, in April 2018 guitarist Patrick Vos joined the band, replacing Ingmar. The band’s focus for 2018: working on a new full-length album and doing some live-shows in which you are invited to join us and enter the RIVER OF SOULS!
